A Muted Voice

I admit that I don't post blog entries as much as I should or would like. Things tend to get in the way. I believe you're familiar with the scenario and experience it quite often. It's called 'life'. Life can get hectic, frantic, chaotic and yes, tragic.

Yesterday, for example, I was going to Twitter or Facebook a quick little comment just so I could stay socially connected in this ever-demanding world of uber networking and its incessant necessity. Following my voiceover session for the Weather Network I was going to post something fast like "I'll barter my services for warmer weather. Perhaps a trip south?"

Before hitting 'Enter', a cold wave of reality smacked me upside the head. I was transported from my recording studio to the flashing media images of what had only happened 24 hours earlier and continued to offer bleak updates.

In a country thousands of miles away, thousands of lives were lost and thousands more affected. I admit I felt somewhat ashamed. Certainly humbled. And I was speechless, definitely avoiding posting a seemingly trivial message just to make my obligatory minor voiceover-related contribution du jour.

Not to get maudlin, but I honestly feel extremely lucky every day I’m alive to be surrounded by wonderful family members and friends and to do what I thoroughly enjoy and call it a living. Today I feel even more fortunate that my family and friends are alive and well. Not buried under rubble.

A World Vision donation to the victims in Haiti is partially for my own redemption for it can only be a drop in a sizeable bucket to help a country that was already the hardest hit of all nations in the western hemisphere.

In life it’s a good rule of thumb; in my business it’s essential: Think before you open your mouth...or hit ‘Enter’.

My thoughts and prayers head south. It’s freezing cold where I live and I’m just fine with that.
