Voice Over Branding - The Weather Network

As the branding voice for Canada’s national televised weather channel, The Weather Network, I have the pleasure of providing voice over intros & extros, on a weekly basis, for the various on-air weather features and segments.

As with most voice branding or imaging - continuity is crucial. This is one of the key elements that make any radio or television station identifiable in its tone and style. That voice – on a 24/7 basis - can provide a sense of familiarity and comfort that can help keep the listener/viewer tuned in, or at least coming back.

Quality Voice Over Talent – Finding the Right Fit

There are 7 billion people on this planet. That’s a lot of voices. And all are unique. Some may sound similar but they are ALL different.

There are so many different elements that comprise a voice’s quality and personality: texture, tone, timbre, pitch and cadence. And while there may be similarities in many voices there are multiple nuances to make each one unique.

Medical & Pharmaceutical Narrations STAT!

Below is a list of some of the recent medical and pharmaceutical voice overs performed and delivered for various medical facilities, treatments, conditions, studies and innovations.

I am always honoured and humbled to be a small part of spreading the message in the evolving world of medicine, science, research & development.

‘Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Sequel’ (The Don Cherry Story)

This past spring I auditioned for a part in the sequel to the hugely succesful 2010 television hit, ‘Keep Your Head Up Kid – The Don Cherry Story’.

I admit that I was apprehensive when my agent notified me about the audition for the role as legendary Canadian sports broacaster Brian Williams. To play a fictitious character is one thing - to portray and pull off the part of a well known and still-breathing, actual person - quite another.

I was even more amazed when my agent called a few days later to say that I booked the part.

Dr. Professor’s Thesis of Evil – A Villainous Voice Over

There’s only one thing more fun than doing a character voice over.  It’s doing a character voiceover of a villain!  For me it’s somewhat creatively cathartic and a delicious way to vent via voice over.

I was recently cast as a voice actor for a very unique project entitled Dr. Professor’s Thesis of Evil. I was selected to do the voice of a news announcer but the main role to sink my teeth into was also a wicked military commander for which my German accent and maniacal voice acting abilities were called upon.

A Colonversation: Getting to the Bottom of a Narration

I have been recording medical and pharmaceutical narration for several years. It’s a challenging and enjoyable voice over specialty that has led me through virtually every realm of medicine, anatomy, technological innovation, new procedures & exciting product launches.

Weather Network Voiceover: A Ridge of High Definition Moves In

I have always been proud of my association with Canada’s national weather channel, The Weather Network.   I was an on-camera presenter from 1998-2003 and considered myself fortunate to be part of a huge team of professionals who really knew how to produce and present a superior product televised across five time zones and in two official languages.

Movie Trailer-Style Narrations - The Gritty Voice Over

I once gave my friends and colleagues a good laugh when I would launch into an over-the-top voice over delivery one would normally only hear in movie trailers. You know, the larger-than-life, in-your-face, thunder-of-the-gods delivery usually associated with the likes of the late, legendary Don la Fontaine.
