Roving Reporter Strikes Again!

My agent called again today. I landed another role from a recent audition. I’m on a bit of a run. Not that VARIETY has stopped the presses to get this news flash on tomorrow’s front page. The movie is called “Murder In The Hamptons”. However, something tells me I won’t be flying to the actual New York celebrity playground to perform my part.

Once again I’ll be doing my best ‘reporter’ impersonation. I’ve been in about a dozen movies and TV shows and I invariably get cast as a news anchor, reporter, sportscaster or weatherman. It might have something to do with my background in real life as a news anchor, reporter or weatherman.

In real life those positions were exciting. I especially enjoyed the ‘live’ aspect of covering breaking stories, interviewing interesting guests or actually trying to make viewers believe I knew how much snow would fall with the incoming storm. As if.

(”…a good likliehood of widespread green moving in!”)

Live television was a riot because I’d be flying without a net. You had to do what you had to do with a certain amount of time to do it. Try not to screw up or go blank. The digital clock counting down to zero! That’s when I had to be wrapped up. Sometimes I found myself still babbling not realizing we had already gone to commercial 20 seconds ago. Oops! I never let it bother me. I usually chuckled.

That was then. This is now. The difference between being a reporter for a living and playing one as a hobby is I’ll be on set all day just to say a paragraph in one scene. I felt more productive in the real life role. I deal with it though. The hobby pays more :-)
