imEdge gets the EDGE

A few days ago I got the call from David and Jean at EDGE Studios in New York City that they’d like to book me for a session with a client I worked with before.
This is an interesting arrangement with the host studio in NYC, the client in Holland and my home studio in Toronto. Here’s the deal: the client is one of those people that definitely knows what they want for inflection, tone, style, energy, tempo and attitude.

My motto is: if the client’s happy…I’m happy. However, it’s somewhat difficult to hit your mark when the phone-patch recording session has been set for 8 a.m. Both Toronto and New York City are EST (Eastern Standard Time). However, the client is 6 hours ahead and it’s already the end of her day. My coffee is barely kicking in and they need me to be bashing through peoples’ speakers with in-your-face hard sell energy!

The funniest thing about this scenario - the spot is originating in Canada, produced in the U.S., commissioned and approved in the Netherlands and ultimately…airs back in Canada!

These are the commercials where the client actually wants me to say “oot & aboot” and ‘eh”! I’m still defiant that we don’t say “oot & aboot” vs. “out & about”. However, I will take total responsibility for rampant useage of “eh”
