Winter has Arrived! Hello, Spring Fever!
International Motorcycle Super Show. It must be at least 10 years that I have been voicing radio commercials for this particular client.
When I was on-air for Toronto rock radio station Q107 in the 90’s I voiced radio spots for local legendary motorcycle shop McBride Cycle and various motorcycle trade shows.
I was somehow the resident voiceover authority due to the fact that I was the only one at the radio station that rode a motorcycle. It also led to some amazing perks in the biz like new bikes on loan for the riding season. “WHAT? I get to ride this amazing, sleek, brand spankin’ new, mind-freakin’-blowin’-horsepower-spewin’-Ninja…FREE?!”
My moment of Zen (as Jon Stewart wraps ‘The Daily Show’ with) was the occasion , several summers ago, I prepared to hop back onto my crotch-rocket by the cottage in the summer. An older, wobbly, disshevled-looking man sauntered up to me, in an obviously admiring fashion, saying he really liked my bike.
Apparently he liked more than just the wheels, engine and paint job. I believe his exact words were “Nice machine. I’d like to ride with you. I get horny just looking at it”. I never pounced, cranked and laced 9000 RPM faster in my life! See ya!
Disturbing flashback!

Back to the initial posting: I used to do these two-person voiceover reads with my pal and fellow voice over colleague, Kenny Caughlin. I’m happy to say that after more than a decade I still perform these annual scream-fests with ‘Kenny the Hitman’!
We don’t do the radio spots in the station’s studio anymore. Ken used to work down the hall on-air for the AM Top 40 side. I was blazing on the ROCK Radio FM end of things. Times, and situations, change.
These days Kenny voices his 2-part segment for the 60-second ad at his studio and then sends it to me. I record my slammin’ counterpart at the imEdge studio and return the consolidated results to Q107.
It’s not even Christmas…it’s barely winter…it’ll be a few months til we hit the warm, dry pavement. But we always have the same credo in mind when the spots sound hot:
“Live To Ride. Ride To Live!”
